AVoptics wireless optical link field (WOLF) system is a field deployable free space optics communications (FSOC) system designed for bi-directional, high-speed transmission of data. It is small and lightweight (~1 kg) and low power consumption (< 2W electrical power) making it easy to use in harsh environments. WOLF has been used to deliver the communication link in the world’s first demonstration of a drone being controlled using optics. WOLF enabled the secure optical communications between static ground platforms, such as tanks deployed from a forward operating base who typically rely on bulky, impractical fibre optic communication links.
