The new Optical multi-gigabit IEEE Std 802.3cz for automotive

Stand B110

20th March 2024

Modern automotive systems, with features like self-driving and smart entertainment, demand high-speed, reliable data transmission. Current network technologies face challenges meeting these demands, prompting the exploration of optical links. Optical links offer benefits like high-speed transmission, low latency, and superior electromagnetic compatibility. Addressing these needs, the industry developed IEEE Std 802.3cz for high-speed automotive optical communications. Published last year, this standard specifies Physical Layer parameters for speeds of 2.5, 5, 10, 25, and 50 Gb/s per lane over glass multimode optical fiber, catering to the evolving requirements of the automotive industry and a complete ecosystem for new applications.
