SuperLight Photonics: Next Generation OCT

Stand B71

14th August 2024

OCT is a powerful inspection method that offers high resolution, sub-surface penetration, high scanning speeds (throughput) and non-destructive characterization.

Spectral Domain OCT uses a wideband light source in combination with a spectroscope. Increasing spectral bandwidth of the light source results in higher system resolution, and as a result more details can be observed. An ideal light source is a wideband laser, also known as a supercontinuum laser. Whereas today’s wideband lasers succeed in generating a wide bandwidth, they also produce substantial noise, and this negatively impacts the sensitivity of the OCT system. Using SuperLight Photonics’ unique PAD – Patterned Alternating Dispersion™ technology on a photonic-integrated circuit (PIC), our solution generates this spectrum in a much more efficient way, resulting in an exceptional combination of wide bandwidth and magnitudes better noise performance.

With this solution a variety of applications can be enhanced, for instance inspecting and monitoring internal structures at high resolution in medical or industrial settings, characterizing waveguides or other components in photonic and semiconductor devices, and for broadband fiber optic sensing applications.
