PCSELs – the key laser technology for solving AI workload connectivity issues

Vector Photonics is a Glasgow-based scale up that recently proved the viability and commercial-use suitability of photonic crystal surface emitting lasers outside the laboratory in “real world” conditions. The company makes it ECOC debut with a focus on using PCSELs to solve a range of AI workload connectivity requirements.
Compared to other laser architectures – VCSEL, EML, DM DFB and DFB SiPh (CW laser-based), PCSELs possess key advantages when it comes to scaling, modulation, reach, and channel seating to give OEMs and hyperscalers the ability to implement scale in / up / out and –across solutions with a single laser platform. Furthermore, it’s suitable for both SMF and MMF, has the simplest BOM and can “plug and play” into existing interconnection architectures.
