LioniX International, a global provider of silicon nitride integrated photonic chips and modules, has developed a next-generation module for the SatCom industry. This module enables flexible payloads, allowing devices to dynamically switch bandwidth and reallocate coverage resources. It performs signal processing in the optical domain with reconfigurable, precise filters. It combines Coupled Ring Optical Waveguides (CROW) with asymmetric Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (aMZI) on TriPleX® silicon nitride waveguides (with losses below 1 dB/m) and uses stress-optic PZT-based tuners, with power dissipation under 1 µW. This module enhances power efficiency and minimizes propagation and insertion losses, addressing critical challenges in satellite communications.
