Using Infinera’s ICE6 800G optical engine technology, the Paratus Group has become the first operator to light fibers and offer services over the Equiano submarine cable into Nambia. Owned by Google, the Equiano cable is designed with many branching units capable of delivering high-capacity connectivity into multiple West African nations. This state-of-the-art submarine cable system is based on an architecture called space-division multiplexing (SDM), which supports higher numbers of fiber pairs to earlier cable designs. In the case of Equiano, this means 12 fiber pairs with a design capacity of 144 Tb/s.
