Bay Photonics Ltd, Paignton, UK, is delighted to be included in Q-TATA, one of ten projects announced in March 2025 in the UK Quantum Mission Pilot. Q-TATA, led by Oxford Ionics and partnering with Bay Photonics and Riverlane, is for pioneering a 2D ion-trap quantum computing architecture to improve qubit routing efficiency. Trapped ions are the most powerful QCs, measured by Quantum Volume. Existing trapped-ion QCs utilise 1D chip designs with limited ability to route qubits. With runtimes and errors increasing exponentially with the qubit count, this is a key bottleneck in scaling. Q-TATA addresses this.
