Stan Lumish takes the helm at Pilot Photonics

Ex-JDSU executive Stan Lumish has been named as chief executive officer and chairman of the board at Pilot Photonics Ltd, a privately held company developing optical comb subsystems. Lumish replaces the company’s cofounder, Philip Perry, who will return to Dublin City University to pursue optical transmission research.

Calix buys FTTH product line from Ericsson

Optical access vendor Calix has signed two agreements with Ericsson that will boost its position in the FTTH market.  The US company has agreed to purchase the fiber access assets from the Swedish firm; a global reseller agreement was also signed under which Calix will become Ericsson’s preferred global partner for broadband access applications.

Optical transport market down 5% in second quarter 2012

Market research firm Dell'Oro Group has reported that the global optical transport equipment market in the first half of 2012 shrank 5 percent compared to a year ago to $6.1 billion (€4.8 billion).

AppliedMicro unveils 100Gbps CMOS multiplexer chip

AppliedMicro has announced the first CMOS merchant multiplexer chip for 100Gbps coherent optical transmission. The S28032 device supports dual polarisation, quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) and has a power consumption of 4W, half that of current multiplexer chip designs implemented in BiCMOS.
