HIG Capital, a global private equity investment firm with over €20 billion of equity capital under management, has announced that it has sold UK-based fibre-maker Fibercore to Humanetics Innovative Solutions,a portfolio company of Golden Gate Capital. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Cisco to acquire application performance monitoring company AppDynamics for $3.7bn

Oclaro’s Q2 2017 financial results ‘exceed guidance’

Optical communications solutions developer Oclaro has announced selected preliminary unaudited financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2017, which ended December 31, 2016.

Preliminary unaudited Q2 2017 financial highlights include the following: revenue of $153.5m-$154.0m, at the high end of the prior guidance of $146m to $154m provided on November 1, 2016; non-GAAP gross margin of approximately 40%, above the prior non-GAAP guidance of 33-36%; non-GAAP operating income of approximately $36m, above the prior non-GAAP guidance of $22m to $26m. Non-GAAP operating income excludes $2.6m of stock-based compensation and $0.2m of amortization of other intangible assets.

Diamond’s new multi-fibre connector, for fast, easy and flexible installations

Diamond has developed a new rugged and reliable fan-out connection based on the well-known Diamond Multi Fibber System (MFS) connector system that provides greater flexibility of temporary and fixed fibre optic installations.

The special feature of the new DiaFlex is that the fibre whips can be removed and replaced via a connector system in the divider.

ETSI drives NFV interoperability with first “Plugtests” event at 5TONIC, Madrid

ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, launches this week the first Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) interoperability Plugtests event. This international event, which takes place until 3 February in Leganes, Madrid, Spain, is hosted by 5TONIC Laboratory, with the technical support of Telefonica and IMDEA Networks Institute. This significant event comes hot on the heels of the publication of the ETSI NFV Release 2 specifications and the announcement of ETSI Open Source MANO Release ONE in October 2016.

NTT achieves highest core density with 12-core single-mode optical fibre

Achieving an industry high 12-cores within a single-mode optical fiber, new fiber design will work to bring us closer to meeting the needs of a Big Data future.

A research team from NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories, Japan, has developed a multi-cored fibre (MCF) design, for the first time, with 12 core paths. The cores are randomly-coupled in a way that enables transmission of larger amounts of data through a standard-sized 125 µm-diameter fibre. The NTT team will present their findings at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC), taking place 19-23 March in Los Angeles, California, USA.
