SumiCloud updates to v2.0

Sumitomo’s SumiCloud App which adds internet connectivity to a splicer via a smartphone was first shown at ECOC 2015. This year at ECOC SumiCloud App version 2.0 is released. Version 2 adds many useful functions to help users get more from their Sumitomo T-71C+ fusion splicer.

SMART Photonics just started it’s 10th commercial MPW run for PICs on InP.

As an independent developer and producer of photonic components on InP, SMART Photonics has just started it’s 10th commercial MPW run for creating PICs on InP. In 2013 they started the first commercial MPW run on InP in the world offering commercial access to a new generic integration technology. Almost 200 different chip designs have since been produced and the first products are now even entering the pilot production phase. Using the regular scheduled MPW shuttles, PIC designs can easily, and at low cost, be tested and developed. As such the MPW runs are a SMART and fast way of getting new PIC designs on the market. A PDK that has been made available through the Phoenix software will offer you the opportunity to design your own PICs!

Molex High-Density Multiport Optical EMI Shielding Adapters

EMI shielding adapters address mechanical design requirements limiting EMI and radio frequency interference (RFI) emissions from front panels or enclosures. High-Density Multiport Optical EMI Shielding Adapters (up to 15 ports) from Molex are constructed of either all die-cast housings or as a half die-cast, half polymer housing. Housings have an EMI gasket that seals the adapters to the panel. The adapters increase shielding effectiveness while enhancing front panel aesthetics compared to traditional plastic adapters.

New Core-Centering Splicer for Optical Fibers Splice Six Seconds – Heat Nine Seconds

The FITEL S179 is the new core-centering three-axis splicer from FITEL Furukawa for me¬tro, LAN, FTTx, and all bend-insensitive fibers. Splicing a fiber takes only six seconds in semi-automatic operation, and applying a protection sleeve takes nine seconds. A charged battery can operate for up to 200 splicing cycles!
 
The 4.3”-large touchscreen and the large opening of the splicing chamber make hand¬ling much easier. Four bright LEDs provide the best interior lighting, even under poor lighting conditions.
